Transfer Focus: Amelia Easley ’21
An interview with Amelia during her first semester on campus.
Why ϲ: The people and the community were easily the biggest draws, as well as the incredible resources for geology students within ϲ and the Five College Consortium.
Favorite place so far on campus: Skinner Green and the Science Center. I love how it is so much more than a building. They really took science majors and their interests to heart when designing and building it.
In 10 years: I would have received my doctorate a couple years prior, so ideally I would be working with a college, university or governmental organization, maybe the National Park Service, conducting research and continuing to learn.
Career aspirations: Being able to have a job that takes me around the world, inside volcanoes and into the lab. I want to be able to help people by learning and discovering more about these natural disasters, and eventually make an impact on our world.
Noteworthy work/volunteer experience: Having the opportunity to intern at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in the radiation medicine department was an incredible opportunity. It taught me how to function in the workplace. When I began to develop leadership in Lewis & Clark’s College Outdoors division and its women’s ultimate team, this experience helped me a lot.
Proudest moments: Honestly, finishing my first semester of college. That was emotionally a difficult time. Another big one was presenting independent research on calcium carbonate and ocean acidification —for a class I petitioned for enrollment — at a poster session during Lewis & Clark’s Festival of Scholars.”
Who is in your family: My mom, golden retriever Bella, and two black cats, Jojo and Pepper, and I all live in the same house. My dad lives nearby and I see him frequently. We all have a great relationship.
Favorite TV show, movie, music: I am very unoriginal: “The Office.” One of my favorite movies, which my mom took me to see at an IMAX theater in Washington, D.C., is “A League of Their Own.”
