“Virtual Reality Demos for Oculus Go”
Virtual reality demos using Unity, Substance and Maya softwares for an Oculus Go virtual reality headset.
by Sage Mahannah ’21
I’ve developed some virtual reality demos using Unity, Substance and Maya softwares for an Oculus Go virtual reality headset. It’s primarily a few small scenes and a few simple programs where people can manipulate and interact with their surroundings in virtual reality.
It’s on the simple side, but I hope it will get people incredibly excited about virtual reality development! I do only have a single Oculus Go, so I’m limited in how many people I can show it to at one time, but I am hoping to edit my programs so that I can correctly stream to my computer what someone sees.
As a nonbinary, femme and biracial Chinese American, I’m hoping to show others that virtual reality development isn’t simply something that white men do. Additionally, due to costs, some people might think they can’t get started learning how to develop in VR without purchasing expensive equipment and software. I hope that I might be able to answer questions about VR development so that other students can get started in designing their own games, applications and digital art projects.
